Services south
Update 3.30pm:
A detour route has opened up allowing us to begin moving freight to and from areas south of Ashburton but it won’t be business as usual for some time. There’ll be ongoing impact as our teams work to clear a backlog of pick ups and deliveries over the next few days.
For our drivers tonight the alternative route while safe will still require them to exercise caution.
Update 9am:
There’s still disruption to some of our South Island services as a massive clean-up begins following days of rain across the wider Canterbury region.
Damage to the Ashburton Bridge on State Highway 1 and to several other bridges on the usual detour routes means we won’t be able to complete any pick-ups south of Ashburton until further notice.
Many other roads have been damaged by the flooding, with engineers and contractors out assessing the clean up required.
Services north of Christchurch are running as scheduled.
We appreciate your patience as we try and prioritise the backlog of pickups and deliveries. There is a likelihood that you will encounter slight delays in the next couple of days as a result of the road closures.
