Winter is back
Severe southerly gales are forecast for central and southern parts of the country which could have a short-term impact on our inter-island services.
There’s a strong wind watch for Wellington and the Wairarapa tomorrow and Cook Strait ferry operators say they’re expecting 5-metre swells from as early as 7am which potentially could mean cancellations and disruption.
Gales are also forecast for the Canterbury plains especially near the coast, and in Marlborough and south of the Wairau Valley with hazardous conditions which could slow drivers.
Snow showers are likely during tomorrow and the early hours of Thursday for the Desert Road, Lewis Pass and Lindis Pass. Our teams will keep you updated but please factor this heads up into your planning.
