  • SH3 is now OPEN between Makirikiri Line and Pukepapa Road

            •           SH54 is currently CLOSED between Vinegar Hill and Cheltenham

            •           SH1 is currently CLOSED between Hunterville and Weka Street in Taihape

            •           SH4 is currently CLOSED between Whanganui and Raetihi

            •           SH56 at Opiki is currently CLOSED, due to rising water levels

            •           Napier-Taihape Road is now OPEN.

SH1 could possibly remain closed until 07:00 Tuesday morning.

SH Ngamahanga to hasting (Taihape-Napier Road)

As at 11:45am, the following State Highways are affected:

• SH3 – CLOSED between Makirikiri Line and Pukepapa Road

• SH54 – CLOSED between Vinegar Hill and Cheltenham

• SH1N – CLOSED between Hunterville and Taihape (closure may be extended to Waiouru)

• SH4 – OPEN, with speed and size restrictions; only cars permitted at this stage. A full closure remains possible.

• SH56 (Opiki) – CLOSED due to rising water levels

• SH57 – CLOSED at the Tane Road intersection, with a detour in place

 

New closure:

• SH56 is the latest state highway to close in Manawatū Whanganui as heavy rain and strong winds continue to impact the region

Ferry services to recommence on Tuesday 17 February at 2.00 am.

  • SH1 at just north of Foxton is CLOSED

  • SH3 is CLOSED SH4 to Whangaehu

  • SH54 from SH1 to Cheltenham, is CLOSED

STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED:

Manawatu, Rangtikei, Taraua, Waipa and Otorohanga District.

The current severe weather system is continuing to cause widespread disruption across our network today. Heavy rain, flooding, slips, strong winds and dangerous sea conditions are affecting multiple regions in both the North and South Islands.


We are experiencing:

  • Road closures and restricted routes across areas under Red and Orange Heavy Rain Warnings, particularly in Manawatu, Rangitikei, Ruapehu, Hawke’s Bay, Taihape, Wairarapa, Tararua, Kaikōura, northern Canterbury and Banks Peninsula.

  • Ferry cancellations due to hazardous sea conditions and severe gales.

    • Monday 16 February 

Wellington to Picton:    2:00 am, 8:15 am, 1:30 pm, 8:30 pm

Picton to Wellington:    2:30 am, 7:45 am, 2:00 pm, 7:15 pm
