Network Update | Awakino Gorge 29 August - 1 September 2026

The SH3 Awakino Gorge will be closed from 29 August 2026 to 1 September 2026, requiring freight to use alternative routes during this period. The closure is necessary to enable critical recovery works within the gorge.

 

As a result of the additional costs associated with these alternative routing requirements, a temporary Network Disruption Charge will be introduced for freight moving through the SH3 Awakino Gorge corridor during the planned closure period.

What you need to know:

  • The charge applies only to freight impacted by the SH3 Awakino Gorge closure.

  • The charge will apply from 29 August to 1 September 2026.

  • Should the closure be postponed due to weather, the charge will instead apply during the revised closure dates.
