Inter-island freight delays
Weather conditions have improved around the country but not enough to allow Cook Strait ferry sailings to resume today, which means we are still unable to move inter-island freight until further notice.
There is no guarantee that sailings will resume tomorrow (Thursday 1 July) and if they do ferry operators expect it’ll be Sunday before they will clear a significant backlog after two days of cancellations.
Regretfully this means there will be a 48 to 72-hour delay on the carriage of inter-island freight for our customers.
Our operational teams are working hard to plan the most effective way of clearing our backlog of pick-ups and deliveries and hope services will begin getting back to normal from the weekend.
Aside from the inter-island ferries, conditions are easing elsewhere and all major roads have reopened or detours are available.
