Disruption to inter-island services

Weather Watch.JPG

Further to our update late yesterday about forecast bad weather there’s now been confirmation that some Cook Strait ferry sailings have been cancelled for later today and early on Thursday.

Regretfully, this will impact our ability to deliver to planned schedules with potential delays of up to 24 hours for inter-island freight.

Kiwi Rail is one operator who has already confirmed it has cancelled Inter Islander sailings from Wellington at 4pm and 8.30pm (Wednesday 1 July) and south-north sailings from PIcton at 6.30pm and 8.45pm tonight.

Early morning sailings both ways have also been cancelled tomorrow (Thursday 2 July) although it’s expected the worst of the storm will have passed later tomorrow morning and sailings are due to resume from 6.30am on Thursday morning.

If you have any questions please contact us by email to customer.support@halls.co.nz or get in touch with your Hall’s account manager - otherwise our operational teams will be in touch directly with any affected customers as more detailed information is available.

Our 30 June Service Update on this:

Ferry operators are watching weather forecasts closely with the potential for some inter-island ferry sailings to be affected tomorrow and Thursday.

A weather warning was issued early this afternoon for Cook Strait and if the anticipated high seas arrive then one operator has advised we could see sailings cancelled from early afternoon tomorrow (Wednesday 1 July) for 24 hours until late Thursday (2 July).

This may mean delays on all Inter Island freight deliveries with flow-on effects. Our drivers may also face some forecast snow and adverse road conditions in the North Island later today and tomorrow.

We’re working closely with ferry operators to monitor the situation and if the sailings are disrupted our Operations teams would further notify any affected customers directly. If you have any questions or concerns, then please get in touch with your Hall’s account manager, or email customer.support@halls.co.nz.
