SEVERE WEATHER - NAPIER/GISBORNE

As per Waka Kotahi NZ Transport:

Severe weather warnings are in place for the Napier and Gisborne regions.

Residents are evacuating in low lying areas in Gisborne. Over the last couple of days Napier has experienced continuous rain and the rivers are starting to rise.

The following road closures are already in place due to flooding:

·       SH2 Matawai and Ormond

·       SH35 Okitu to Ruatoria

SH2 between Napier and Wairoa are closed from 5pm today due to flooding. There will be no access to Gisborne from any direction after 5pm, so no freight will be moving in and around that region. Any freight currently in the network will be moved through the laneways as they re-open, however there will likely be a backlog. Impacted customers will be contacted directly.

We hope to know more by Monday, however at this stage, we do not anticipate reaching Gisborne before Monday.  Please check our website for further updates.

Updated 7:15pm

SH5 between Taupo and Eskdale is now also closed due to flooding and slips. The Hall’s team are re-routing affected units. There will be significant delays to customers in the Hawke’s Bay region.
