Network Update | Significant Road Hazard SH1

Significant road hazard currently affecting State Highway 1, from north of Waiouru/Taihape through to Kapiti, with conditions easing near the southern end of Transmission Gully.

A large amount of tar and loose asphalt has spilled across several sections of the highway. This has already caused substantial tyre damage for multiple road users and conditions are particularly challenging southbound between Manakau and Peka Peka.

Although Contractors and Police are actively managing the situation, delays in freight movements through this corridor maybe experienced.

The safety of our drivers and the protection of your freight remains our priority and we will adjust routes and speeds where necessary to reduce risk.
