ROADSIDE HERO

Eugene Hekenui drives for Intermodal Lower North Island.

At approximately 6:45am on Wednesday 11th December Eugene witnessed a truck and trailer go off the road in front of him, and crash into effectively a ravine on SH1 just South of Turangi.

Eugene’s actions (determined through EROAD footage) were outstanding! He pulled over to the side of the road as soon as he could safely do so. He then attempted to contact the driver of the crashed unit via his CB radio. Once doing so, he left his vehicle to help the occupants of the crashed vehicle to safety, contacted the police and called his despatcher to advise why he was delayed.

His calm actions in the face of what had just occurred in front of him were a credit to him.

Well done Eugene! You are a true example of the Hall's values in practice!
